Åre is a Municipality in Jämtland County, in North West Sweden, and a town therein. The municipality covers an area of about 7300 km² and is Sweden's 11th largest by size. The municipal seat is located in Järpen with some 1,500 inhabitants; The town Åre has a population of about 1,000 inhabitants.
Åre is the main center for alpine skiing in Sweden. It will host the FIS World Ski Championships in 2007. 25% of the municipal industry is based on tourism, most notably the skiing resorts Åre and in Storlien.
Åre would also have been the secundary site for alpine events of Östersund in its bid for the organization of the XXIInd Olympic Winter Games, the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Åre Bryggeri is also a brand of beer.
