Świna

From Freepedia

The Świna (Pomeranian: Swina, German: Swine) is a central strait, river or a branch of the Oder River out of three straits conecting the Lagoon of Szczecin with the Bay of Pomerania of the Baltic Sea, between the islands of Wolin and Uznam.

In 1897 the river was dammed and deepened, and the Kaiserfahrt (Kanał Piastowski) was dug, which connected the Świna with the harbor of Stettin (Szczecin), and as such gained import as a direct waterway to the industrial city.

The Świna is part of a waterway connecting Szczecin Airport with the Baltic, sea allowing large ships to enter Szczecin.
