-kinesis, from Greek "kinesis", movement, motion, is a suffix that denotes movement. It is frequently used to indicate hypothetical paranormal abilities relating to movement or environmental manipulation. Some of these abilities, such as psychokinesis, are fairly well-known, while most are not.

Aerokinesis

Main article: Aerokinesis

Aerokinesis is the ability to tune one's consciousness to the currents of wind and have an effect on it's movement. Aerokinetics can have an enormous effect on the wind, possibly creating tornadoes. Precise practice of aerokinesis allows the user to move objects with the wind that they are manipulating thereby having a similar effect to psychokinesis. A fictional example of aerokinetics would be Storm of the X-Men.

Chronokinesis

Chronokinesis is the ability to affect the flow of time through psychic or otherwise supernatural means. Of those few people who claim to possess the ability, most claim to pass through time in spirit. The practice of chronokinesis is an obscure topic, even among psychics and other paranormalists. An example of chronokinetic phenomena would be the movie The Butterfly Effect.

Cryokinesis

Cryokinesis is an apparent psychic ability to absorb or displace thermal energy within atoms. Cryokinesis effectively freezes the desired object or being by removing all the heat energy within them. Common claims from people who apparently possess this ability include descriptions of turning water into ice, cooling the temperature in a room and creating ice from water vapour in the air; however there is little to no evidence of this phenomenon. A good (but fictional) example of a Cryokinetic would be Iceman from Marvel's X-Men.

Electrokinesis

Electrokinesis is the purported ability to manipulate electricity and electrical phenomena via conscious will alone. Self-proclaimed electrokinetics claim to have the ability to interfere with various electronics, such as television reception, radio reception, and random interference with various light sources, such as a streetlight. Some electrokinetics claim to have to ability to produce electricity through their hands, although most "electrokinetics" claim to be able to only manipulate existing electrical fields, rather them create them. Electrokinesis usually requires physical contact between the electrokinetic and it's target, although some accomplished electrokinetics claim to be able to create an arc up to three inches in length, which is very surprising considering the immense ammount of power required to create an electrical arc. Among the psychic community, claims of possessing such ability are very rarely made. Fictional examples of electrokinetics are Colonel Volgin from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Electro from the Spiderman series, and Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Four Film.

Gravitokinesis

Gravitokinesis is the purported ability to manipulate gravitons and gravitational fields psychically, thus allowing the wielder to manipulate the force of gravity of an object. Gravitokinetics are alleged to be capable of enhancing gravitational pull or negating it altogether. A fictional example of gravitokinesis would be Graviton of Marvel Comics. Also known as Gyrokinesis.

Hydrokinesis

Hydrokinesis is the purported ability to manipulate water in its solid, liquid, and gaseous state via conscious will alone. This is commonly considered an aspect of telekinesis, however a possible example could be the Marvel Comics character Hydro-Man.

Magnetokinesis

Magnetokinesis, an ability similar to electrokinesis, is the apparent power to control all forms of magnetic/electromagnetic fields psychically. A fictional example of magnetokinesis would be Magneto of the X-Men. Also known as Magnokinesis.

Photokinesis

Photokinesis is the ability to move any group of photons, to create beams of intense light, or remove light, creating darkness. Claims of possessing such ability are rarely made.

Psychokinesis

Main article: psychokinesis

Psychokinesis, also known as telekinesis or remote influencing, is the ability to manipulate objects at a distance using the force of will alone. Hydrokinesis and terrakinesis can be considered forms of psychokinesis. Famous examples include the famous book charactor CARRIE by Stephen King.

Pyrokinesis

Main article: pyrokinesis

Pyrokinesis is the ability to excite the atoms within an object, possibly creating enough energy to ignite or melt the object. Pyrokinetics also sometimes claim to be able to quell fires. In fictional works, pyrokinetics are also able to create flames out of thin air. Examples of pyrokinetics would be the minor villain Volcana in the Superman animated series and Hotshot of the Teen Titans.

Terrakinesis

Terrakinesis is the ability to tune one's consciousness to the ground and be able to manipulate the earth in any way. Terrakinetics can have an enormous effect on the ground, possibly creating earthquakes. A fictional example of terrakinetics would be Tara Markov (Terra) of the Teen Titans. Also known as Geokinesis.
