.dd was the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) reserved for the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany). The "dd" came from the German language name of the country: Deutsche Demokratische Republik. The domain, however, had never been activated in root nameservers. It was taken out of use following the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany.
