- 2018 FIFA Football World Cup - Scheduled to be held in June and July. It is most likely that a UEFA country will host the event, with the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Russia and England likely to bid for the rights to host the event. A decision will be made in 2011 as to who hosts the event.
- Researchers and investors in Space Elevator technology hope to fund, construct, and launch the first elevator by 2018.
