- This article is about the former British Colony of Aden, a former territory in what is now Yemen. For the port city, see Aden, and for other uses, see Aden (disambiguation).
The Colony of Aden (Arabic: مستعمرة عدن [Mustaʿmarah ʿAdan]) was a British crown colony from 1937 to 1963 and consisted of the port city of Aden and its immediate surroundings. Before 1937, the 121 km² territory was ruled by the Bombay Presidency of British India and known as the Aden Settlement. On 18 January 1963, it became the State of Aden in the new Federation of South Arabia and on 30 November 1967 became part of the People's Republic of South Yemen. The hinterland of the Aden Colony was known as the Aden Protectorate.
