Adragon De Mello

Adragon DeMello (b. 1977) Graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in computational mathematics in 1988, at age 11, becoming the youngest college graduate in US history.

It was widely publicized that his father, Agustin Eastwood De Mello (b.1930), had set the goal for his son starting at an early age to become the youngest university graduate ever. His father was a karate master and former weightlifting champion, and he vigorously mentored Agragon from an early age.

DeMello and his father were interviewed by Morley Safer for the TV show 60 Minutes in 1987.

By 1989, his parents had separated and, after a brief period in foster care, he was in the custody of his mother, Cathy Gunn, and as a college graduate, he went back to junior high school.

As of 2000, he was working as an estimator for a commercial painting company.

The DeMellos were back in the news on March 15, 2001 after the elder DeMello, who called 911, allegedly claiming to be suicidal, was involved in armed standoff with Santa Cruz police was charged with negligently discharging a firearm. Agustin, dying of bladder cancer, was released to the custody of his son. Agustin died March 30, 2003.

As of 2003, DeMello was working for The Home Depot.
