Ahmed Omar Abu Ali
From Freepedia
Ahmed Omar Abu-Ali is a Falls Church, Virginia man who is being held on charges of providing material support to the al Qaeda terrorist network. He was detained in Saudi Arabia in June 2003. He was transferred to US custody twenty months later, in February 2005. His trial is pending.
The admissibility of information from his interrogation in Saudi Arabia is being challenged because he has alleged his interrogations included torture. In late October 2005, the Federal Judge presiding over the case ruled that his statements were admissible. Trial is expected to begin within weeks.
According to the Washington Post, in documents unsealed on September 20, 2005, Abu Ali acknowledged wanting to join al Qaeda during his Saudi interrogation, but acknowledged that the conspiracy he was believed to have been involved in, to assassinate President Bush, was merely a solo fantasy, not an actual plot.
