Al Iskandariyah

From Freepedia

Al Iskandariyah (Alexandria) (Arabic: الإسكندرية) is one of the governorates of Egypt, located in the north of the country, lying directly on the Mediterranean Sea which makes it one of the most important harbours in Egypt.

Its capital is Alexandria, the home of the Biblotheca Alexandrina, the world famous library that was burnt down but now rebuilt. Alexandria is now considered to be the second capital of Egypt, as it has been once during the early days of the Romans.

Alexandria has an average population of about 3,500,000 inhabitants and a surface area equal to 2,900 km². Due to the intermediate geographical location of Egypt it usually has all four seasons but as Alexandria lies directly on the sea it is considered to be mostly cooler than all the other governates but with an averagely higher humidity.
