Alexandra Fyodorovna (Charlotte of Prussia)

Princess Charlotte of Prussia (Frederica Louise Charlotte Wilhelmina, July 13, 1798-November 1, 1860) was, as Alexandra Feodorovna, Empress consort of Russia as the wife Nicholas I of Russia.
She was the fourth child of Frederick William III, King of Prussia and Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
In 1817, she married her second cousin Grand Duke Nicholas Pavlovich and took the name Alexandra Feodorovna. They had seven children:
- Alexander Nicolaievich, the future Tsarevich and then Emperor Alexander II of Russia (1818-1881), married firstly Marie of Hesse and secondly, morganatically, princess Catherine Dolgoruki.
- Maria Nicolaievna (1819-1876). Married Maximilian de Beauharnais, Duke of Leuchtenberg (son of Eugène de Beauharnais), which marriage was accepted as equal (ebenbuertig) by her father. Her issue were confirmed in having succession rights to Russian throne, and they mostly lived in St.Petersburg. Secondly she married count Gregory Stroganov.
- Olga Nicolaievna (1822-1892). Married Karl I of Württemberg in 1846 and was childless.
- Alexandra Nicolaievna (1825-1844)
- Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich of Russia (1827-1892). Married princess Alexandra Josifovna of Saxe-Altenburg and had issue.
- Grand Duke Nicholas Nicolaievich of Russia (1831-1891). Married his first cousin's daughter, Princess Alexandra Petrovna of Oldenburg and had issue.
- Grand Duke Michael Nicolaevich of Russia (1832 -1909). Married Cecilie of Baden (Olga Fedorovna) and had issue.
Alexandra Fedorovna became empress upon her husband's accession as Nicholas I in 1825 and was widowed in 1855. Her reputation is that of never mixing into politics, and being a loyal and caring wife and mother.
