Alfréd Wetzler, alias Jozef Laník (1918-1988) was a Slovak Jew who was one of the few people known to have escaped from the Auschwitz death camp. He is most famous for the report he and his fellow escaper Rudolf Vrba gave of the workings of the Auschwitz camp, which was the first detailed report to reach the West.
