Alfred Mineo
From Freepedia
Alfred "Al Mineo" Manfredi (? - November 5, 1930) was a Mafia Godfather, leader of the family that became the Gambino crime family.
Mineo was the head of one of the five major families in New York City prior to the Castellammarese War. He was put in charge of the Toto D'Aquila family in 1928, after D'Aquila was killed by Joe Masseria. As the head of the D'Aquila family, he proved a powerful ally to Masseria.
Mineo was shot down, along with his lieutenant Steven Ferrigno, on November 5, 1930 in the courtyard of an apartment house on Pelham Parkway in the Bronx. The gunmen were forces of Salvatore Maranzano, who had been hoping to kill Masseria. After Mineo's death, his family was taken over by Francesco "Frank" Scalise, who allied himself with Maranzano. Mineo's murder proved costly to Masseria's war efforts.
