Ancient universities of Scotland
From Freepedia
The Ancient universities in Scotland comprise
- The University of St Andrews (founded 1413)
- The University of Glasgow (1451)
- The University of Aberdeen (1495)
- The University of Edinburgh (1583)
The University of Dundee (founded 1967, with a history dating back to 1881) shares several organizational features with these four and a line of descent through St Andrews, of which it was a part 1897 to 1967, and so is sometimes considered alongside them.
Uniquely, the Ancient Universities award a degree bearing the title of Master for undergraduate courses in Arts and Divinity (known as Scottish MA), although the degrees are equivalent to a Bachelor's degree elsewhere and are properly referred to in the UK-patterned system as "Honours degrees".
