Antoine Karam

Antoine Karam (b. February 21 1950 in Cayenne) is the President of the Regional Council (Conseil régional) of French Guiana, an overseas région of France.

Karam has been president of the council since March 22, 1992. As a member of the left-wing Guianese Socialist Party (PSG), allied to the French Parti Socialiste (PS), he is also French Guiana’s single representative in the French Senate.

The election to choose the council president is held every four years by the 31-member council.
