Barium Nitrate chemical formula Ba (NO3)2 is a salt of barium and nitrate. Specific gravity 3.2, melting point 592°C, molar mass 261.35 g/mol, decomposes before boiling. Barium nitrate and barium chlorate are used for green fire in fireworks.
Like other soluble barium compounds, barium nitrate is toxic and should be handled with care.
Baratol is an explosive composed of barium nitrate, TNT and binder; the high density of barium nitrate results in baratol being quite dense as well. Barium nitrate mixed with aluminum powder is highly explosive.
