Balkanabat

Nebitdag, originally Nebit-Dag, also officially known as Balkanabat (Балканабат), is a city in western Turkmenistan, and the capital of Balkan Province. It is located at latitude 39.5119 North, longitude 54.365 East, at a altitude of 17 meters, some 600 kilometers from Ashgabat. As of 1999, the city had a population of 108,000.
Nebitdag lies at the foot of the Gora Ardan mountains. It was founded in 1933, as a stop on the Trans-Caspian Railway. It is an industrial center for petroleum and natural gas production.
