Battle of Karnal

Battle of Karnal (February 24, 1739), was a battle and great victory of Nadir Shah over Mughal emperor of India, Muhammad Shah. It took place during Nadir Shah's invasion in India.

The battle took place at Karnal, 110 km (70 miles) north of Delhi, India. Muhammad and his army were defeated soundly. Nadir's army consisted of about 55,000 troops, and Muhammad's army numbered approximately 15,000. Indians, howewer, had a large number of noncombatants and they heavily outnumbered the army of Nadir Shah in numbers. In within three hours Indian had heavy losses and over 20,000 killed or wounded. Rest of Indian army runaway in all directions. Muhammad Shah was captured and took as hostage. Nadir Shah and entered with him in Delhi two weeks after the battle.
