Beer-In-Hand

From Freepedia

Beer-In-Hand is a modification of the billiards game, played on a pool table using cue sticks. Each player is required to hold the cue stick with one hand, and a beer in the other, and may not use the beer hand to assist in shooting.

Rules

This modification applies to any game of billiards (assuming, of course, that the game does not in and of itself require two hands, and that each player has two hands), though the rules have been most thoroughly tested in 8-ball. "Beer-In-Hand" is not itself a game of billiards, but a method of playing, invented and popularized in Seattle, Washington, USA. Each player must shoot using only one hand, while the other holds a beer. Additional rules are as follows:

  • A player may not drink unless they have scored a shot.
  • Each time a player pockets a ball, they must take two swigs of their beer.
  • If a player scratches, two rules apply: if they made their shot, they can take one swig, and the other player(s) take a swig. If the shooting player misses the shot while scratching, the other player(s) is allowed two swigs.
  • The winner is defined by the rules of the game being played. When the game is over, each player may drink according to their wishes, but the losers are obliged to buy the winner another beer.
  • If a beer runs out during the course of a game, the beer must be replenished for the game to continue.
  • While chalking the cue stick, a player should hold the stick in the beer hand while chalking with the playing hand. Players are cautioned that chalk dust may fall into the bottle/can/glass, so be careful.
