Benbecula

Benbecula (Scottish Gaelic: Beinn na Faoghla, meaning "the mountain of the ford") is an island of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. In the 2001 census it had a usually resident population of 1,249. It is administratively part of the Western Isles Region. It is easily accessible by the airport which has daily connecting flights to Glasgow.

Benbecula's main settlement is Balivanich in the northwest. It is the main administrative centre for the Uists and has the council offices and the admin centre for the artillery deep sea firing range on South Uist. The village is also home to Benbecula airport.

The island lies between and is connected to North Uist and South Uist by causeways.
