The Book of Ether is part of the Book of Mormon, the major sacred text of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (members of which are often referred to as Mormons). The Book of Ether tells of an ancient people (The Jaredites) who were led by God to the Americas shortly after the destruction of the Tower of Babel.
This book was translated and abridged by Moroni and included on the plates from which the Book of Mormon was translated. This book is from an earlier set of twenty-four plates discovered by the people of Limhi during the time of Mosiah (father of King Benjamin). (Mosiah 8:9 and Ether 1:2) Coriantumr was the final king of this people who were destroyed before Coriantumr was discovered by the people of Zarahemla. The people of Zarahemla also discovered a large stone containing a brief history of Coriantumr's people that Mosiah was able to translate. (Omni 1:20-22)
