About the Brisbane City Hall

Brisbane City Hall, which is situated between Ann Street and Adelaide Street, Brisbane, was once the tallest building in Brisbane.
The front entrance to the Brisbane City Hall is at King George Square, which was named in honour of King George V.

The foundation stone was laid in 1920 by Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII / Duke of Windsor), and Brisbane City Hall was opened in 1930.

Brisbane City Hall has an imposing Clock Tower, with a lift running through the Centre of the Clock. The Clock has Westminster Chimes,
and there is a lookout above the Clock Tower.

The bronze Lion sculptures were initially part of the King George V memorial, which was unveiled in 1938 as a tribute to the King from the citizens of Brisbane. The sculptured Tympanum above the entrance of Brisbane City Hall was made from Helidon sandstone by Brisbane sculptor Daphne Mayo.

Brisbane City Hall is the Brisbane seat of Local Government. The head of local government is the Brisbane Lord Mayor.
