Brisbane Line
From Freepedia
The Brisbane Line was a controversial defence proposal allegedly formulated by the Menzies government, that would, upon a land invasion of Australia, surrender the entire continent bar the populated coastal strip south of Brisbane to the Japanese. In 1941 Eddie Ward was leaked information pointing to its existence from unknown public servant which he publicised at a public meeting at Preston Town Hall, Melbourne. The quality of the evidence this plan remains a matter of contention, with trade unionists and other critics using it as evidence of Menzies' supposed enemy sympathies. There is very little doubt that the wholesale defence of the entirety of Australia's vast and sparsely populated countryside would have been highly impractical, but it seems unlikely that any Australian government would surrender the entirety of Northern Queensland without a fight.
