Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, Inc. is a motion picture and television feature distribution company owned by The Walt Disney Company. Buena Vista International is the worldwide equivalent, and Buena Vista Home Entertainment is the firm's video and DVD distribution arm.
It was founded in 1954 as the costs of Walt Disney's animated features being distributed by RKO Radio Pictures were too high for the studio to cope. The name comes from Buena Vista Street, the road along where the current Walt Disney Studios and company headquarters are situated.
The company distributes all features produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, DisneyToon Studios, Touchstone Television, Miramax, and several small independent companies which employ Buena Vista to distribute their films.
Buena Vista also distributes television features such as Desperate Housewives and Lost to television stations around the world. The company logo is the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland, which opened a year after the company was founded. Buena Vista Home Entertainment's mascot is Benny Vista.
