Bureau of Diplomatic Security

The Bureau of Diplomatic Security is an agency of the United States Department of State responsible for the safe conduct of United States foreign policy. Diplomatic Security Agents protect United States Government personnel, facilities and information. DS Agents are responsible for the security of U.S. missions and embassies overseas, which includes operational control of the United States Marine Corps Security Guard Detachments stationed abroad. DS Agents protect the United States Secretary of State and foreign dignitaries and others as appropriate, and conduct criminal investigations into international document fraud, espionage, terrorism and other violations of the United States Code.
