California State Route 90, for most of its length better known as Imperial Highway and the Marina Freeway, is an east/west numbered California State Highway running between Orange and Los Angeles counties.

Route summary
SR-90 is composed of two distinct segments:
- The Marina Freeway, starting from Lincoln Boulevard (SR-1) in the Del Rey district of Los Angeles, and ending at Slauson Ave. just east of the I-405 interchange.
- SR-90 resumes approximately 7 miles (11 km) to the southeast, on Imperial Highway at the border between Los Angeles and Westmont to its eastern terminus at the Riverside Freeway (SR-91) in eastern Anaheim. Imperial Highway continues past the freeway before ending in the city of Orange. The section of Route 90 within the city of Yorba Linda, was relinquished in 2002, leaving a little over half a mile (896 m) of Route 90 before its eastern terminus.
Plans were made to connect the two segments, but it is highly unlikely they will ever be fulfilled.
History
Plans existed for a highway connecting Route 1 and what would become Interstate 605 in Norwalk. On July 1, 1964, this portion was designated California State Route 90 and to be constructed as the Slauson Freeway, as it largely paralleled Slauson Avenue.
A second highway, designated Route 42, would have run from I-605 to Route 91, with an extension to Yorba Linda added those the plans in 1959. In 1965, the section of Route 42 between I-605 and Route 39 was transferred to Route 90, and then the remainder of Route 42 to Route 91 transferred in 1968; this eastern portion was dubbed the Yorba Linda Freeway.
In any event, community opposition to additional freeway construction meant that most of the freeway sections were never completed. A short western portion between Marina Del Rey and the 405 became known as the Marina Freeway. This section was also briefly known as the Richard Nixon Freeway, although that name was dropped following the Watergate scandal.
The eastern portion east of Route 90 did the inverse. In 2002 the City of Yorba Linda assumed responsibility for Imperial Highway within its city limits; it lost its name and state route designation, and is now called the Richard Nixon Parkway.

Legal definition of Route 90
390. (a) Route 90 is from Route 1 northwest of the Los Angeles International Airport to Route 91 in Santa Ana Canyon passing near La Habra, except for the portion within the city limits of Yorba Linda. (b) The relinquished former portion of Route 90 within the City of Yorba Linda is not a state highway and is not eligible for adoption under Section 81. (c) The City of Yorba Linda shall ensure the continuity of traffic flow on the relinquished former portion of Route 90, including any traffic signal progression. (d) For the relinquished former portion of Route 90, the City of Yorba Linda shall maintain signs directing motorists to the continuation of Route 90.
