Campos do Jordão

Campos do Jordão is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. Its coordinates are 22° 44′ 22″ S, 45° 35′ 29″ W. The population in 2003 was 47,903 and the area is 290.27 km² The elevation is 1,628 m.
The city's economy is based mainly in tourism; due to its high elevation and European-way-of-living (constructions and cultures are mostly German, Swiss or Italian inspired). Economic classes A and B build their winter country houses there and July (the winter season vacations) sees an enormous influx of visitors (more than quadrupling the city's population), due in part to an excellent Winter Festival of Erudite Music which is held there.
The state governor has also his Winter residence there.
The city, due to its elevation, is relatively cold; maximum of 23° C and minimum of 10°, in the summer; maximum of 12° and minimum of -6° in the winter (snow is extremely rare).
Campos do Jordão has a very high HDI, compared to most Brazilian cities. In 2004, its HDI was 0.802. The city can be reached from São Paulo mainly by road through the Rodovia Floriano Rodrigues Pinheiro. There is also a picturesque railroad from Pindamonhagaba, used mostly by tourists.
