Capitanian

The Capitanian is a stage on the geologic time scale occuring from 265.8 +/- 0.7 to 260.4 +/- 0.7 million years ago.

It is the last stage of the Middle Permian Epoch (also known as the Guadalupian).

A significant mass extinction event occured at the end of this stage which may be related to the much larger Permian-Triassic extinction event that followed ~10 Myr later.
