The Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves includes eight separate areas totaling 3,665 square km, clustered around the New South Wales - Queensland border. They were inscribed to the World Heritage list in 1986, covering only the N.S.W. sites (3600 km²) and extended in 1994 to cover the Queensland sites (592 km²).

The Queensland areas include Lamington National Park, Springbrook National Park, Mount Barney National Park, Main Range National Park, and 37 other National parks and protected areas as well. The NSW areas include Dorrigo National Park.

The Central Eastern Rainforests Reserves (Australia) World Heritage area meets three of the four natural criteria for listing: I; II; IV.
