Chandrapur

From Freepedia

Chandrapur is a district in the Nagpur division of the state of Maharashtra. It is famous for its superthermal power plant, one of the biggest in Asia, and its vast reserves of coal. Predominantly a tribal area, it was the largest district in India until it was split into the separate district of Gadchiroli.

Chandrapur has large reservoirs of lime stone. Because of abundance of lime and coal there are lot of cement factories (like L&T, Gujrat Ambuja, Manikgard and ACC) in the surronding areas.

This district has large areas of forests and natural reservoirs.

Tadoba is a National Park near Chandrapur which has Crocodile Breeding Center.

Chandrapur has ancient temples of Ankleshwar (Lord Shiva) and Mahakali (Goddess Mahakali).
