Chelsea, Quebec
From Freepedia
Chelsea is a municipality located immediately north of Gatineau, Quebec, Canada and about 15 minutes drive from Ottawa.
It is a relatively narrow municipality that is bordered to the west by Gatineau Park and to the east by the Gatineau River and runs from Old Chelsea in the south up to the community of Farm Point in the north. Beyond Farm Point lies the municipality of La PĂȘche and the village of Wakefield. It is the seat of Les Collines-de-l'Outaouais Regional County Municipality.
The municipality has a reputation for being environmentally responsible and was one of the first in Canada to ban the use of pesticides. Much of the municipality is residential but with mostly large lots, the neighbouring park and tracts of undeveloped land the area has a distinctly rural feel. The population of Chelsea is almost evenly divided between anglophones and francophones and both English and French are in common use throughout the village.
It was once known as Hull-Ouest or West Hull, but the name was changed to avoid confusion with the neighbouring city of Hull (now Gatineau).
