Chittagong University

University of Chittagong (Bangla: চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) is a public university situated at Hathazari in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The university was established in 1966. It is famous for the natural beauty of its campus, situated near the village of Fateyabad. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank and an a pioneer in Microcredit theory in Economics, started his first experiments from this campus at the neighboring village of Zobra. Dr. Zamal Nazrul Islam, a noted mathematician and a physicist, is also among its faculty. The university is enriched in natural beauty.

The university is located in a remote place from the city. Therefore, it has two shuttle trains and several buses for transportation.

With a modest beginning of 4 departments in 1966, the University of Chittagong has currently grown to 6 individual faculties, 28 departments, 3 institutes and 2 research centers. The strength of the students have grown to more than 15,000.
