Chondroitin sulfate

From Freepedia

Chondroitin sulfate is a glycosaminoglycan found in connective tissue.

Chondroitin Sulfate (CS) is a component of the matrix of cartillage. It functions to maintain osmotic pressure by absorbing water and therefore helps hydrate the cartillage. CS also contributes to the flexibility and elasticity of the bone. Most importantly, it serves as a chondroprotective agent by protecting the cartillage against enzymatic reactions and free radical damage (including the nitric oxide released by chondrocytes).

Chondroitin Sulfate is used in treating osteoarthritis and is usually prescribed along with Glucosamine Sulfate, where the former helps prevent further damage and the latter helps form cartillage.
