Louis Phélypeaux

Louis Phélypeaux (1643–1725), marquis de La Vrilliere, comte de Pontchartrain, was descended from several French Secretaries of State and served Louis XIV of France as chancellor in 1699.
He is the namesake of at least two geographic features in North America: Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana and historic Fort Pontchartrain in Michigan.
