The Honeycomb cowfish, Acanthostracion polygonius belongs to the Ostraciidae family and is closely related to boxfish and trunkfish. Its name is derived from the striking pattern of hexagons which cover its body. In cowfishes , these hexagonal patches are used as armor and defend the cowfish, which is a slow coral dweller, from predators.
