Dado rail

A Dado rail is a type of moulding fixed to an interior wall about 120 cm to 150 cm above the floor. Its purpose is partly decorative, partly protective.

Also sometimes referred to as a chair rail because it prevents the backs of straight-backed chairs from rubbing against the paintwork or wallpaper.
