Dana French is a computer programmer and disaster recovery expert, who is probably best known for his advanced usage of shell programming in automated disaster recovery implementations. One of his most often utilized programs is a set of Bourne shell functions called "shell curses", which is a component of many shell script based menuing systems.

Dana French received his undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1984 and worked developing chemical engineering software for the petro-chemical industry. From there he concentrated on system administration and standardization for the purpose of disaster recovery and business continuity. He holds numerous copyrights on a wide variety of software products that were developed in response to many of the problems encountered while automating the processes of disaster recovery and business continuity.
