David Wechsler

From Freepedia

David Wechsler (January 12, 1896, Lespedi, Romania - May 2, 1981, New York, New York) was a leading American psychologist. He developed two well-known intelligence scales, namely the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC).

Wechsler studied with many of the leading psychologists of the day, including E. L. Thorndike, J. M. Cattell, and R. S. Woodworth. He also studied psychoanalysis with Anna Freud (Sigmund Freud's daughter). Known today for his "IQ" tests, he also had a complex and subtle understanding of human intelligence: he believed in the essential unity of intelligence and viewed the different tasks on the WAIS and WISC as various indices of the same capacity, rather than as separate "intelligences."
