Digicel is the leading mobile phone network provider in the Caribbean region. Based in Jamaica, the company witnessed a well received success in the Jamaican market and has expanded its mobile services into neighbouring islands such as: Aruba, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, Curaçao, Grenada, Haiti, Saint Lucia, and the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines islands in recent years.

Digicel, first established April, 2001 in Jamaica had its customer base quickly expand to over 850,000 customers. Digicel is currently majority owned by Irish entreprenuer Denis O'Brien. The company in Jamaica witnessed fast growth and now currently leads the Jamaica market with about 60% of the marketshare over the former incumbent monopoly telecommunications-provider Cable and Wireless Caribbean. Digicel, continued its self-touted "competitive" expansion into neighbouring islands and at end of 2004 is said to have made investments totally sum $600 million throughout the region.

In a deal first announced on June 23, 2005 Digicel has confirmed its intention to acquire from Cingular Wireless the former AT&T Wireless operations and cellular licenses for the Caribbean region along with those in Bermuda. The financial terms of this deal were undisclosed. With regulatory approval the deal will see Digicel expanding into several new markets previously served by AT&T Wireless including: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bermuda, Dominica, and Saint Kitts and Nevis islands.
