Dingoes Ate My Baby
From Freepedia
Dingoes Ate My Baby is a fictional band on the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The lead guitarist was Oz (a.k.a. Daniel Osborne) played by Seth Green, who readily admitted that his band was not good, and agreed that they sounded as if they played with "plump Polish sausages tied to their fingers." While the other members appeared in some episodes (and whenever the band was shown together), they were never as important as the character of Oz, the first love of Willow.
Despite identifying exclusively as a lesbian later on in the run of the show, Willow always kept a poster of Dingoes Ate My Baby on her dorm wall.
The name of the band refers to the Azaria Chamberlain disappearance, an incident in Australia in 1980 in which a baby disappeared in mysterious circumstances near Uluru. The mother, Lindy Chamberlain claimed "a dingo ate my baby!". (She was at first convicted and later acquitted of murdering her baby.) The incident was later dramatised in the movie Evil Angels (called A Cry in the Dark in the US) starring Meryl Streep. This was also brought up in an episode of Seinfeld in which Elaine proclaims "perhaps a dingo ate your baby" in an Australian accent when at a party with Jerry. The dingo might also be a reference to Oz turning out to be a werewolf.
The music of Dingoes Ate My Baby is actually composed and performed by Four Star Mary.
