Elections in Italy
From Freepedia
This page gathers the results of elections in Italy.
Italy elects, on national level, a Parliament consisting of two houses, the Chamber of Deputies (630 members) and the Senate of the Republic (Senato della Repubblica) (315 elected members, plus a few senators for life). The President of Italy is elected for a seven-year term by the Parliament houses in joint session.
In Italy there are two main political coalitions, but historically there are many parties. Both coalitions have experienced stability issues at different times. Other than the left-wing coalition, L'Unione, and the right-wing one, the House of Freedoms, there is a small fascist coalition, Alternativa Sociale, some regional parties (especially from Valle d'Aosta, South Tyrol and Sardinia), and the Italian Radicals, whose allegiance can change often.
