Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
From Freepedia
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is an ABC reality television series that began broadcasting in 2003 in which a family's house, including all rooms, exterior and landscaping, is made over by a team of builders and designers in seven days while the family is sent on vacation. It is a spinoff of Extreme Makeover, a show where an individual is given a makeover, typically involving plastic surgery, dental work, and laser eye surgery. The show is one of ABC's top-rated series and has become more popular than the series from which is was spun off.
The show is hosted by carpenter Ty Pennington, formerly from the show Trading Spaces. It is sponsored by Sears (and their properties, Craftsman and Kenmore), for which Pennington serves as a spokesman. The series is devoted to remodeling families' homes when the family is in need of new hope. One episode had the family of Morgan Nick who had been missing since 1995. Another episode was devoted to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
On August 14, 2005, while filming a house renovation in Prince George's County, Maryland, the hotel in which the crew was staying (in Largo) was robbed, and the wife of a crew member was injured; the crew was moved to a hotel in Greenbelt with added security.
Also in August 2005, five orphaned siblings who appeared on the show sued ABC, accusing the network of fraud and breach of contract. The siblings said the family that took them in after their parents died later drove them out of the nine-bedroom mansion that was built for them.
