Fomento Económico Mexicano, S.A. (FEMSA) is a company based in Monterrey, Mexico.
FEMSA was founded in 1988 by Eugenio Garza Lagüera (Before, it was named VISA). It is the largest beverage company in Mexico and Latin America.
FEMSA is divided into five segments:
- Coca-Cola FEMSA: FEMSA owns 45.7% of this Coca Cola Bottler which is the second largest bottler of Coca Cola in the world.
- FEMSA Comercio: which operates OXXO, the biggest convenience store chain in Latin America, as well as other smaller convenience stores called “deposits”.
- FEMSA Cerveza: FEMSA owns Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma which produces some of the best Mexican beers like Indio, Carta Blanca, Tecate, Sol, Bohemia, Superior, XX Lager, Kloster and Coors Light. Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma is the second largest brewer in México, just after Grupo Modelo.
- FEMSA Negocios Estrategicos which is divided into:
- FEMSA Logistica: which is in charge of the distribution of all FEMSA products.
- FEMSA Empaques: is in charge of designing and creating the bottles, as well as labels, for Cerveceria Cuauthemoc Moctezuma products as well as refrigerators, and other promotional products.
Since 1995, José Antonio Fernández has been the Director General of FEMSA. In 2001, Jose Antonio Fernandez Carvajal was elected as Chairman of the Board and of FEMSA. FEMSA is listed both of the New York Stock Exchange and the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores.
