Faroese króna

From Freepedia

The Faroese króna is the currency of the Faroes. It is issued by the National Bank of Denmark. Although a frequent misunderstanding, it is not an independent currency, but in fact standard Danish bank notes printed with specific Faroese motifs (mostly animals and natural scenery.)
A new bank note series with better security features is currently being introduced replacing the old notes. The last note in the new series, the 1,000 krónur-note, will be issued in the summer of 2005. The Faroes use Danish coins like Denmark and Greenland.

Since the Faroese króna is not an independent currency, it does not have a ISO 4217 currency code. The ISO 4217 code for the Danish krone is DKK.

Danish kroner are exchanged to Faroese krónur and vice versa by the National Bank of Denmark free of charge. While Danish bank notes are not formally legal tender in the Faroes, they will be accepted in most situations.

  • 1 króna = 100 oyrur (sg. oyra)
  • 100 krónur ~ 13.50 Euro (evrur, sg. evra in Faroese)
