Federico II of Gonzaga

Federico II of Gonzaga (1500 – 1540), Marquis of Mantua, succeeded his father Francesco as ruler of Mantua in 1519. His marriage to Margaret Paleologo in 1531 brought the Duchy of Monferrato into the Gonzaga family's possession after the extinction of the legitimate male line.

He built as his summer palace the Palazzo del Te near the city of Mantua.
