Fijian dollar

From Freepedia

The Fijian dollar is the currency of Fiji. So far in 2005, one US dollar has varied between approximately 1.60 and 1.70 Fijian dollars, and similarly one Euro has been worth between 2.10 and 2.20 Fijian dollars. The Fijian dollar is divided into 100 cents. The coins feature both Queen Elizabeth II and items of Fijian culture, such as a tabua on the 20 cent piece.

On 16 August 2005, Finance Minister Ratu Jone Kubuabola announced that the Cabinet had approved the introduction of a $100 banknote and the withdrawal of the two cent coin, whose minting cost exceeded its face falue. It would be primarily yellow; the other banknotes would retain their existing primary colours, he said. The portrait of Queen Elizabeth II would remain on all banknotes, he said. Calls from some politicians to remove the Queen's portrait from the currency after eighteen years as a republic were not taken up.

Kubuabola said that the $100 banknote would measure 156 millimeters by 67 millimeters, with the other banknotes receding at 5mm towards the lowest banknote denomination.
