Flag of Venezuela

From Freepedia

The flag of Venezuela was adopted on February 17, 1954. The version depicted (current) is the civil flag. The government uses flag in which the coat of arms is charged at the upper hoist corner.

The flag is the one primarily adopted by the National Congress of 1811, consisting of three united stripes, measured in equal proportions and in horizontal position. This original design was by Francisco de Miranda, who on March 12, 1806 hoisted a flag with three stripes, yellow, blue and red on his ship headed to Coro, Venezuela on his second attempt to initiate a revolutionary movement of independence.

This format remained unchanged since 1811, but underwent several modifications through 19th and early 20th century, concerning the stars and the coat of arms.

The Coat of Arms was incorporated with the Law of the National Flag, Coat of Arms and Anthem, on February 17, 1954.

Flag Day is celebrated in Venezuela on March 12.
