François Bernier

François Bernier (1625 – 1688) was a French physician and traveller, born at Angers. He was physician for 12 years to the Mogul emperor Aurangzeb, and published Travels.
His 1684 publication Nouvelle division de la terre par les différentes espèces ou races qui l'habitent is considered the first post-Classical published classification of humans into distinct races.
He wrote Travels in Mughal Empire which is mainly about Jahangir's and Shah Jahan's period.
