Fredrik Barth

Fredrik Barth (born 1928) is a Norwegian anthropologist who has published several ethnographic books with a clear formalistic view. He is well-known among anthropologists for his transactional analysis in the Swat Valley of northern Pakistan and his encounter with the arabic Tomatmannen in the area of Darfur in Sudan. Barth was also the editor of the ground-breaking Ethnic Groups and Social Boundaries (1969).
