Glasgow School of Art is an art school in Glasgow, Scotland. It was founded in 1845 as the Glasgow Government School of Design, one of the first Government Schools of Design. In 1853 it changed its name to the Glasgow School of Art. Initially the School was located at 12 Ingram Street, but in 1869, it moved to the McLellan Galleries. In 1897 work started on a new building to house the School on Renfrew Street. The building was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the first half of the building was completed in 1899 and the second in 1909.

Mackintosh was later the designer of the fine-art buildings, considered by many to be his masterpiece.
