Goatwhore

Band History

1997: The band is somewhat formed when Ben Falgoust, vocalist for Louisiana grind band Soilent Green and Sammy Duet, formerly of Acid Bath, started playing experimenting with Black Metal by themselves. After Acid Bath finally fell apart, due to the untimely death of bassist Audie Pitre, Goatwhore recorded a four track demo and two more band members, Zak Nolan and Patrick Bruders join in 1997. Rumor has it that the band name originated from an experience one of the members of the band had with a homely looking stripper.

2000: Goatwhore release The Eclipse Of Ages Into Black under the Rotten Records label in Upland, CA. An interesting side note, Rotten Records was also the label for Acid Bath and Agents of Oblivion. Agents of Oblivion was formed after Acid Bath disbanded and featured former AB members Dax Riggs and Mike Sanchez.

2000-2002: Extensive Touring start, opening for bands such as GWAR, Mortician, and Immolation. Show after show, they toured across the USA to draw in a fan base that wasn’t extensive nor was it small, a loyal fan base of USBM listeners that enjoyed their sound.

2003: Funeral Dirge For The Rotting Sun is released under Rotten Records, showing that the band can make their sound even better by becoming better musicians. While on tour with Soilent Green, Ben Falgoust is in a car accident and sustains injuries that limit him to not performing vocals for Goatwhore durning live performances. Goatwhore, as a whole, pull out and let Ben recover, which he did beautifully.

2004: Touring starts again, but this time across the Pacific and into Japan. Zak Nolan leaves the band on good terms and good friend Justin Perez joins the band as a touring replacement. Their, they opened for the likes of Dark Funeral and Zyklon, on The Dojo Volume 9, which was to include Dimmu Borgir, but they quickly dropped off the bill due to a line-up change. Now, Goatwhore is looking for a permanent replacement for drums, not a session member to do the duties of the drums. Patrick Bruders also leaves the group on amicable terms during the year, subsequently joining Crowbar, another Louisiana-based group.

2005: Goatwhore are signed to Metal Blade records and Nathan Bergeron joins as their new bassist.
